The Packard Hawk is a direct descendant of legendary industrial designer Raymond Loewy’s iconic Studebaker Starliner of 1953. Transformed into the Hawk for 1956 with redesigned frontal and rear styling features, it became Studebaker’s prestige car, produced in several models and equipped with a number of powertrains. After the 1957 assimilation of Packard into the Studebaker model line, the Packard Hawk was readied for 1958 with a unique fiberglass nose section and a McCulloch-supercharged 289-cubic inch V8 engine with dual exhausts. Capable of reaching 125 mph, the Hawk was the fastest Packard ever produced.
A very special automobile that also marked the end of Packard automobile production, the Hawk was equipped with a number of premium features. Among them, the Hawk included a “Continental” tire impression on the rear deck lid, a leather-trimmed interior, a non-functional hood scoop, front fender marker lights and full instrumentation including a supercharger boost gauge, a tachometer and a vacuum gauge.
The example offered here received a complete, body-off restoration that was completed in 2008 to factory-correct specifications, based on a California car with just 46,000 miles. The red and white two-tone exterior is complemented by a Saddle interior, and in addition to its many standard features, this Hawk is also equipped with options including power brakes and power steering. Just 30 miles have been covered since completion of the restoration, and as offered today, this 1958 Hawk is ideally suited to any Packard collection, particularly as it was built in the final year of production.
